PC Bill Barker
Allow me to add my voice to the tributes to PC Barker, killed on duty while directing the public away from a bridge in Cumbria that collapsed under the weight of floodwaters.
He has a wife and four kids and, I’m sure, left for his shift yesterday as he did for every other shift. Not a hero, but an average guy going to work.
Hug your emergency workers, folks…and never let them leave the house with a cross word.

Second that! My personal emergency worker has just rung to say he’s off to Cumbria to help out - so send a few hugs his way too, please.

Ditto …. RIP
And huge hugs for all the emergency services working on the front line - wherever they are, whoever they are.

Indeed. My brother lives in Cockermouth and is one of the people who was being directed away from said bridge. So sad.

Bloody tragic.
Our emergency services are under paid and under appreciated.
After the waters recede they will be all but forgotten about until the next time.

Having been in a situation a number of years ago where I crossed a flooded bridge which was under a foot of water to get three young children off, only to fin out when the water receded that there were massive chunks of the bridge missing, and sheer luck had kept me safe, I know that PC Barker will not have thought of himself, only of those he was protecting. That is other tragedy, brave people like him risk all every day for us, and it takes a disaster like this for us normal MOP’s to say thankyou

Such a sad loss. But Kal - don’t just hug your Emergency workers - hug everybody. Tell them how much you love them. Anyone can be taken sudden-like, just sayin’
