they possibly did it deliberately, from what I know of local churches they always like to do things a bit different at that one* to provoke thought, or something. Have you seen the artwork they put outside? (*if it’s where I think it is. You haven’t included roadworks in the shot to help me locate!) [agreed it's nasty for the eyes though]
